The Association hosted an inaugural cocktail party on Friday 23 May at Warners Bay. Guests included representatives of the local companies (eg. Daracon, & Borger Cranes), and local representatives of Scorpion International, (who helped with Australian Quarantine & Customs), who assisted the Association’s efforts to transport our Catalina to Lake Macquarie. Other invited guests included local business representatives and dignitaries. Throughout the evening guests enjoyed champagne, wine, and an abundant assortment of delicious canapés.
Accompanied by a Power Point display, Mr Greg Piper MP, gave a brief history of the Rathmines base and the associated seaplanes, then Mr Peter Hollingsworth, (Association Public Officer & Secretary), spoke of the purchase and procedure involved with ‘Our Girl’ by the Association. He then went on to explain the immediate plans of restoration, along with the plans for the erection of a permanent building to house the display, (as well as the proposed VH-CAT presently at Bankstown). Included would also be the ever increasing Association memorabilia and displays. To close, Mr Hollingsworth went on to advise what the future use by the community might be and the ongoing development and use by the Association to honour our veterans.
